The St. Paul’s ice hockey team has been making waves since its creation in 1990, when a group of determined students decided to form a team for the winter season. Over the past three decades, the team has built a reputation for excellence, claiming six conference championships and earning a special place in the school’s athletic history.

This year, the team holds a 2-2 record in the MIAA conference and has its sights set on another championship. The future looks promising, especially with a strong group of underclassmen contributing to the roster. Senior Brendan Townsend shared his optimism, saying, “I think the program has a bright future, especially having nine freshmen. I know we will have success in the next four years with this group.”

For senior captain Casey Burkum, the team’s strength lies in their unity. “I think we are the most connected team on and off the ice, which can prove a lot in the long run,” he said, reflecting on the bond that drives their performance. Assistant captain Tucker Paxson, a four-year veteran, emphasized the team’s determination: “This team has the most grit out of any St. Paul’s team I’ve been on in my four years. If we don’t win it this year, they better win it for me in their next four.”

Beyond the stats and titles, the St. Paul’s hockey team embodies the spirit of camaraderie and school pride. While lacrosse, basketball, and golf may be the first sports to come to mind when thinking of St. Paul’s, hockey is steadily earning its place in the spotlight. The energy at home games is electric, fueled by hard hits, thrilling goals, and enthusiastic fans.

The team knows that success isn’t just about what happens on the ice. It’s about the support they feel from the stands. So, if you haven’t yet experienced the excitement of a St. Paul’s hockey game, now’s the time. The louder the crowd, the stronger the team’s drive to bring home another championship.
