St. Paul’s bounced back from a tough loss earlier in the week to defeat a scrappy SEED team on Friday night. St. Paul’s out rebounded the visitors by 10, including seven rebounds apiece from Cahron Wheeler, Andrew Cooper, and Ben Lichter.
Saturday, 12/7

New Town- 51
A hard-fought battle on Saturday afternoon ended with a shot from Kaden Edwards riming out at the buzzer. New Town took the lead on a three-point shot with :10 remaining in the game. Edwards shot was tipped in by Cahron Wheeler to tie the game but just a half a second too late. Bryce Matthews got hot from beyond the arc, knocking down five three-point shots and tallying a season high 19 points. Edwards played a great floor game as the point guard for the Crusaders’.

McDonogh- 66
The boys’ varsity basketball team lost to a tough McDonogh team last night on the road. The Crusader’s played their second consecutive game without junior Andrew Cooper, who is projected to be back in lineup for the teams next game on Thursday at league opponent Chapelgate. Bryce Matthews, Cahron Wheeler, and freshman Bryson Clark tallied double figure scoring nights. Matthews dropped 12 while Wheeler and Clark scored 10 a piece.

McDonogh- 47
The boys JV basketball team pulled out a victory at McDonogh school yesterday. JV saw an 18-point 4th quarter lead evaporate but stayed tough and together to pull out the win. Hunter Moore led the team in scoring with 16 points and freshman Cole Edwards contributed a tough 15 points. Augie Criswell and Noah Washington gave great effort and were reliable ballhandlers down the stretch.
Blue

Harford Day School- 44
The Blue team battled for four quarters, eventually pulling away from Harford Day, defeating them by 17. Joaquin Davalos led the scoring with 17 points, hitting four 3 pointers in the 4th quarter. Amar Patel chipped in with 14 points of his own.
Gold
St. Paul’s- 46
Harford Day School- 17
The Gold team got off to a hot start and cruised to a 46-17 win over Harford Day on Monday afternoon in Pollock. Every player scored in the victory and the boys had a lot of fun competing.

St. Paul’s- 59
Chapelgate- 49
The JV basketball team secured their first league win on Thursday at Chapelgate Christian Academy. Point guard Noah Washington drained five threes’ during the game and finished with 17 points. He was supported in the scoring department by Cole Edward’s game high 18 points and interior dominance throughout the game. Grant Horn and Auggie Criswell played with very high levels of energy and effort and the team is off to a great start with a record of 5-2. Their next game will occur in holiday tournament at Archbishop Spalding on 12/27.

Chapelgate- 55
The varsity basketball team won its first league competition last night over Chapelgate Christian Academy. The team started the game with great effort defensively and on the glass to earn a commanding 41-16 half-time lead. The Crusaders were paced in scoring by Sophomore Cahron Wheeler who had 20 points, including a perfect 5/5 from the free throw line. St. Paul’s also welcomed junior Andrew Cooper back into the line-up after missing two games. “Coop” helped Wheeler lead the rebounding effort and finished in double figures scoring, with 10. The teams tough early season schedule looks to pay dividends as league play will continue after New Year’s. The varsity team host’s Sandy Spring friends on Monday at 5:00.
MS Blue
St. Paul’s- 37
Loyola- 28
St. Paul’s Blue basketball held the lead for the majority of the game; however, the score was always close. In the fourth quarter, some adjustments on the SP full court press led to four turnovers in a row, three of which led to layups.
This victory was very much a team win. There were as many assists as baskets. We struggled when we tried to dribble through the defense, and we found success when we moved the ball quickly. We also found success when each member of the press did their job, forcing bad passes by our opponent that led to SP steals by Wyatt Lawder, Moriah Ohale, and Trever White.
The next SP Blue Basketball game is after winter break at home against McDonongh on Thursday, 1/9.
MS Gold
St. Paul’s- 27
Loyola- 47
The Gold team fell after leading at the end of the 1st quarter. We couldn’t get anything going in the 2nd half and we couldn’t get our shots to fall. We return to action on Thursday, 1/9 at 3:30pm in Pollock Gymnasium as we host McDonogh.

The tournament was a huge success as we finished in 3rd place out of 8 teams from across the country. Breakdowns are below:

SP defeated University School (Ohio) 4-3
Colin Faulkner-MacDonagh, Tyler Hyle and Howdy Colhoun won all their matches at the 5th, 6th and 7th spots on the roster. They were pivotal in putting the team in contention against Mercersburg and they paved the way for Keenan McPhail to lead the team to victory with an impressive 3-0 win against a much higher ranked opponent to take the Bronze!

Varsity Squash moves to 3-0 in the MIAA and 6-1 on the season. Keenan McPhail cruised to victory and kept his opponent from scoring a single point in his match! Great job displayed by all players as they head into the winter break.

Highlights include a very strong win from Cole Wilhelmsen and Traveler Stansberry playing through and showing mental toughness and resilience after getting hit in the face during warmups and still wanting to play.

It was a great 1st home match. The energy and excitement was amazing! The amount of people in the room was incredible -Standing room only and they even packed onto the mats to find room!!
We had 15 wins including our 1st 5th grader to get a match and a pin – Colin Johnson!

The other great part, we had 4 boys who lost by points, but they came off the match and said, “I lost, but they didn’t pin me!”
