Every November, the Mental Health Club at St. Paul’s School for Boys hosts their “Movember” challenge. Uniting faculty and students to support a great cause, Movember is surely one of the most beloved traditions throughout the upper school. But what is “Movember?”
Founded 20 years ago, “Movember” is a nationally recognized charity event. The name itself plays on the Australian word ‘mo,’ meaning mustache, and November. The event aims to raise awareness for men’s health issues which have become taboo in contemporary society. Issues like prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide are at the forefront.
Participants of “Movember” take on the new month with a clean-shaven face, allowing everyone a fair chance at victory. The event begins on the first and lasts for all thirty days throughout November. Over the month, participants will refrain from shaving their facial hair, often resulting in intense mustaches. As the challenge revolves around the best ‘mo,’ beards have got to go. Once the thirty days are over, friends and families come together to vote on their favorite stache. At St. Paul’s, the event concludes with questionable selfies displaying various new accessories projected in morning assembly. This is a very beloved tradition among our community, as all the best efforts of each participant are applauded, accompanied by endless laughter because mustaches just aren’t for everyone!
At St. Paul’s, three students and a chosen faculty member from each grade were anonymously selected by their peers. To kick off the contest, the SP Mental Health Club (MHC) hosted a chapel in which each participant was announced, much to their surprise. While the competition was tough, the contest ended in a victory for the Juniors. Congratulations to the class of 2025 on their stylish win!
